The Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris is an independent 'Grand Établissement d'Enseignement Supérieur et de Recherche', controlled by a board of administration. It is member of the community of Universities and Institutions (COMUE) University Sorbonne Paris Cité (USPC) and associated with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).It has about 150 high level researchers coming from all over the world, 170 engineers and administratives, and more than 190 PhD students from many countries. IPGP possesses powerfull computing facilities, and high-tech experimental equipments.All the major disciplines in Earth, Planetary, and Environemental Sciences are developed at IPGP. Chemistry, physics, geology, and mathematics are used for analysing and understanding the activity and evolution of our planet. IPGP has two world-wide monitoring arrays (magnetic field, INTERMAGNET; seimsicity, GEOSCOPE array).It studies and monitors the French active volcanoes of Martinique, Guadeloupe and La Reunion Islands.
